INTENT:

At Beacon Hill, our computing curriculum is designed to give children a secure and meaningful understanding of both digital and real-world systems. We want pupils to develop the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate an increasingly technological world. Computing is not only about using devices, but about understanding how systems work, how information is processed, and how technology shapes our lives.

We aim to prepare all learners to thrive in the 21st century—academically, socially, and as responsible members of a digital society. This includes developing awareness of online safety, digital responsibility, and the impact of technology on the wider world.

IMPLEMENTATION:

Our computing curriculum equips children with key skills such as computational thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. Lessons are carefully planned to build knowledge progressively, allowing children to revisit and deepen their understanding over time.

Pupils learn through a range of engaging, practical experiences including programming, data handling, and digital media creation. They are encouraged to think logically, break problems down into manageable steps, and explore different solutions.

We provide opportunities for children to apply their computing skills across the wider curriculum, making learning purposeful and relevant. E-safety is embedded throughout, ensuring children understand how to use technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly. Through this approach, learners are prepared to participate confidently in a rapidly changing digital world and to aspire towards future careers.

IMPACT:

As a result, children become confident, capable users of technology who can apply their skills across a range of contexts. They are able to communicate ideas effectively using digital tools and demonstrate independence in their learning.

Pupils develop the ability to evaluate digital content, think critically about information, and solve problems using logical reasoning. They understand how to stay safe online and act responsibly when using technology.

By the time they leave Beacon Hill, learners are well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in further education and in an increasingly digital society.
