New Starter Information

Starting school is a big step and we are keen to work with families to make this transition as smooth as possible. Once places have been allocated, we send out welcome letters to let parents know about induction events.

During the Summer term

  • We host an evening meeting for Parents/Carers where you can meet some of the staff and hear how you can help prepare for your child starting school
  • We provide 'Stay and Play' sessions to enable the children to become familiar with the classroom setting. Parent/Carers are welcome to either stay or leave these sessions
  • We organise meetings between the EYFS teachers and pre-schools/nurseries during the Summer term
  • We arrange a lunchtime teddy bear's picnic

Start of the Autumn term

  • We hold a 'meet the teacher' meeting to give Parents/Carers more information about the curriculum and how they can support their child at home, with a focus on phonics and reading

Starting Beacon Hill Primary School at all other times

Should your child be joining us in a different year group in September or at any other time of the year, we strongly encourage you to arrange a visit to tour the school.

If necessary, children may be offered one or more opportunities to visit and spend time in their new classes before formally commencing. We coordinate with the child’s previous school to help ensure a seamless transition.
