    • Clear guidance on expectations for parent attendance and post-event arrangements.
  • Extracurricular & Club Provision
    • Strong demand for a broader, more affordable range of after-school clubs (art, Lego, drama, sports).
    • Requests for KS1 and KS2 clubs to run concurrently and for seamless transfer from school-led to external clubs.
  • Physical Activity & Outdoor Space
    • Calls to maximize use of the field, woods and playground, regardless of weather—with rain-gear guidelines and volunteer supervisors.
    • Frustration over indoor break times in poor weather and under-utilisation of the pirate ship.
  • Sports Day & Inter-School Events
    • Some contradictory feedback on organisation of Sports Day, some strongly in favour of the current combination of clockwork sports and races, some not

• suggestion to recognise personal improvement rather than rankings.
• Families want better preparation for cross-country and athletics events and solutions for transport and onsite facilities (toilets, shade).

  • School Meals & Nutrition
    • Concerns about portion sizes (especially burnt chips) and quality under the current provider.
    • Request to publish weekly lunch menus in advance.

• Numerous requests that practice of distributing birthday sweets is discontinued

  • SEND & Progress Reporting
    • Parents of children with SEND asked for clearer individual targets

• desire for additional feedback opportunities beyond termly parents’ evenings and annual report.

  • Environment & Sustainability
    • Reduce single-use plastics at events and introduce recycling bins.
    • Propose a parent-child Green Committee and more structured use of the woodland area for environmental learning.
  • Uniform & PE Kit
    • Explore more durable, technical sportswear to replace the current green T-shirts.
    • Enforce uniform standards and streamlined PE-kit management to reduce unsightly or ill-fitting attire.

3. Actions

Things already happening:

  1. New catering contract with Innovate starts in September: improvement in meal quality promised. will investigate weekly publication of menus via newsletter or school app.
  2. Money raised to clear trees and renovate the Pirate ship

Things planned:

  1. Publish a rolling-year events calendar, and shared at least six weeks ahead, with explicit parent-attendance and post-event details.
  2. Staff to review how we communicate with parents with regard to those statements with the lowest positive responses
    • The school lets me know how my child is doing
    • The school supports my child’s wider personal development.
    •  When I raised concerns with the school they have been dealt with properly
    • The school has high expectations for my child.
  3. Investigate broadening the range of after-school clubs; investigate partnerships with appropriately checked parents, PTA or local providers to cover art, drama, STEM and additional sports.
  4. Consider a structured outdoor-play plan: provide rain clothing guidelines, investigate recruitment of appropriately checked parent/playground volunteers to enable the allocation of weekly slots for field and woods,
  5. Ensure Sports Day highlights personal bests and improvements. Offer more preparatory practice sessions and ensure alternative, non-competitive activities are available.
  6. Reinforce SEND-support communications protocol: set and share targets.
  7. Canvas parents/carers to identify nature of progress updates required.
  8. Solicit parent volunteers to create a Green Committee to audit waste streams at events, get quotes for recycling bins, and organise outdoor environmental projects.
  9. Assess PE-kit options for durability; pilot technical fabrics and promote a PE-kit swap/second-hand scheme.
  10. Continue to explore group transport solutions for inter-school competitions and onsite facilities (e.g., portable toilets) during all-day events.
  11. Review practice of distributing birthday sweets

4. Next Steps

  • Set clear timelines and milestones (termly reviews) to track implementation of key actions.
  • Conduct a brief follow-up survey in autumn 2025 to measure impact and gather further feedback.

Beacon Hill’s overwhelmingly positive results provide a strong platform for targeted improvements that will enhance parent engagement, broaden enrichment opportunities and deepen children’s well-being and learning.

While some practical issues and areas for growth were raised, the majority of responses express deep appreciation for the school. Parents clearly care deeply about their children’s experience and want to collaborate with the school to make it even better.
